Dammit Jim, I’m only a doctor, not a….

I’m not a life coach.

I’m not a financial planner.

I’m not a travel agent.

So why write a blog about, of all things, early retirement and traveling for free?

I suppose that the answer is, because these subjects are interesting. And one of my personality traits is that when I get interested in something, I get very interested indeed.

As an Example ,When I got into pizza making during cardiology fellowship, I jerryrigged my apartment oven so that it could reach thermonuclear temperatures, and made large batches of sourdough pizza (with cooking times as low as 70 seconds a pie) for my family two times a week for dinner. For years.

At the height of my mania my kids Thought of pizza in the way other kids think of steamed broccoli, or brushing their teeth.

At this point, though, my pizza is above-average. My kids even say so. (I may even post my technique for pizza making at a later date.)

pizza

                            (Mmmmm, pizza)

As a corollary, when I get obsessed with something, I want to talk about it all the time.

This is either:

A. Really Interesting if you happen to be within earshot of me and interested in what I’m obsessed with at the time.

Or

B. Annoying.

With this blog, I hope I can broadcast my thoughts, and if you have use for them, great, you’ll come back for more. Even better you might even learn something, change an unproductive behavior, or add value to your life.

If you are annoyed, you can close the tab.

Just remember, I’m no expert.

If you have an EKG you want me to read, that’s one thing.  But you probably shouldn’t blindly follow my example when it comes to financial planning, or applying for credit cards, without doing your own due diligence.  Read some books.

Caveat emptor. Buyer beware.
